COLLIN: THEY HAVE NOT

2019-04-23

DENNIS: TIMBERWOLVES NEXT GAME TOMORROW NIGHT COLLIN: TOMORROW NIGHT. GOT TO WIN OR SEASON IS OVER. DENNIS: THIS WEEKEND WAS EARTH DAY, AND ON SATURDAY, PEOPLE BOTH CELEBRATED THE HOLIDAY AND MARCHED TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE. AJ FELDMAN TAKES US THERE IN THIS WEEK'S NORTHWOODS ADVENTURE. PEOPLE MARCHED FOR EARTH DAY AND FOR CLAIM AT CHANGE. WE WANT THEM TO THINK ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE. WE WANT THEM TO THINK ABOUT MAKING THAT TRANSITION FROM FOSSIL FUEL TO RENEWABLES, CLEAN ENERGY. THE MARCHES ARE VERY IMPORTANT, TOO, AND IT'S GOOD TO SEE PEOPLE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE EARTH ISSUES. EARTH DAY IS A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE THAT. IT'S A YEAR-ROUND THING. JUST DON'T STOP THE ONE DAY. THE RESPONSE WAS OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE. I DIDN'T HEAR A SINGLE NEGATIVE RESPONSE. PEOPLE HONKING, THUMBS UP. IN FACT, ONE PERSON HERE WHO WAS AT LAST YEAR'S CLIMATE MARCH SAID THE RESPONSE WAS EVEN BETTER THIS YEAR. AFTER MARCHING THROUGH DOWNTOWN BRAINERD, EVERYONE GATHERED IN GREGORY PARK TO HEAR SPEAKERS DISCUSS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO KEEP OUR ENVIRONMENT SAFE. SUSTAINABLE CHANGES AREN'T A CHOICE THAT THE PASSIONATE MAKE ANYMORE, BUT ARE A NECESSARY STEP FOR ALL CITIZENS. WE SHOULD ALL SEEK TO MAKE CHANGES IN OUR DAILY LIVES THAT WILL BENEFIT OUR NEIGHBORS, OUR DESCENDENS AND OURSELVES. WE CAN DO SOLAR. WE CAN DO WIND. WE CAN DO ENERGY AND DEVELOPMENT IN A WAY THAT IS SUSTAINABLE THAT SUPPORTS OUR COMMUNITIES, THAT BUILDS JOBS IN OUR COMMUNITY. THERE WAS A DEMONSTRATE ON HOW PEOPLE CAN MAKE THEIR OWN RAIN BARRELS. A RAIN BARREL COLLECTS WATER OFF A ROOF SO YOU CAN USE THAT WATER FOR YOUR GARDEN OR YARD. IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE EVERYBODY DOES ONE OR TWO AND DOES THEIR PART. YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE. IT'S A WAY OF JUST KIND OF LIKE KEEPING YOUR OWN BACKYARD, OWN CAMPFIRE CLEAN, JUST TAKING CARE OF THINGS YOURSELF. THERE WAS ALSO FACE PAINTING, OTHER ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN, GARDENING DEMONSTRATIONS AND A MUSICAL PER PERFORMANCE, ALL TO CELEBRATE THE EARTH AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO TAKE ACTION TO KEEP IT AS BEAUTIFUL AS POSSIBLE. WE'RE HOPING THAT WITH THIS EVENT TODAY WE CAN RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THOSE ISSUES AND GET PEOPLE TO MOBILIZE AND HOPEFULLY PERSUADE OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES TO CHANGE COURSE. FOR THIS WEEK'S NORTHWOODS
